Abstract (EN)

In the current study, the details of patients (n=3438) who have been treated in the Intensive Care Unit of Internal Diseases Service during January 2010- September 2015 at Ege University Medical School have been examined. 51.19% of the patients (n=1760) were male while 48.81 % of the patients were female (1678). Average age of the male patients were 60.62 year, while the average age of female patients were 62.17 year.In our study, the number of patients in Intensive Care Unit has been doubled since 2010. This increase has been observed even more than double for 65 plus-year-old patients. Most of the patients in Intensive Care Unit have been transferred from either Emergency Service or hospital patient service. With the number of all ages group and 65 plus-year old group, both the number of hospital patients and the number discharged ones have significantly increased. The number of mortality among those patients has significantly decreased. The highest mortality rate in all years belongs to hematology with 50%. The most significant reason for the highest mortality rate at hematology has been detected as sepsis/septic shocks emerging after febrile neutropenia. In our study, the total mortality rate for all services and patients has been found as 28.82%.
