Local government services for disabled persons: The case of Bursa Metropolitan Municipality

The aim of this study is to examine what kind of services are offered to the disabled by local governments within the framework of a sample metropolitan municipality.The subject of the study is limited to the services provided by Bursa BŞB for the disabled people in the context of social municipality. This research is a qualitative research in the social sciences. In this context, data related to the research subject were obtained by using document analysis and interview techniques. These data are research data that the documents obtained from the units that provide service for disabled people in the institutional structure of Bursa BŞB and the interviews conducted with the attendants of the relevant units. Bursa BŞB constitutes the universe of this study. The sample of the study is the Disability Branch Directorate and the Bursa City Council Disability Assembly, which were selected using the purposive sampling method from the specified universe. The data obtained for the purpose of revealing the services for disabled people in the context of social municipality of Bursa BŞB were classified by using content analysis. In the study, it was concluded that Bursa BŞB's services related to disabled people, education, health and health, accessibility and socialization, social assistance and social services and social life services were concluded.In addition, it has been determined that the services offered are supported with projects.It has been seen that these services are concentrated in the services of the Bursa BŞB for accessibility and accessibility services and the Center for Handicapped Life and social life.The objectives of these services are to include people with disabilities in social life, to provide employment, to provide access and access within the city, to enable them to socialize, to ensure healthy living and to raise awareness by other individuals.
