Abstract (EN)

This study was conducted to examine the relationship between cognitive flexibility level and perceived parental attitude in adolescents. Research's population consists of adolescents between the ages of 15-18 who continue their education in high schools in Kartal district of Istanbul province in the academic year of 2020-2021. The sample of the study, on the other hand, consists of 503 adolescents, 277 girls and 226 boys between the ages of 15-18, who continue their education in different high schools in Kartal district of Istanbul province. In the research, scanning and relational research models were used. The Personal Information Form was used to collect the personal information of the participants, the Cognitive Flexibility Scale (CFS) to determine the level of cognitive flexibility, and the Parent Attitude Scale (PAS) to determine the perceived parental attitude. The statistical analysis of the data obtained in the study was made using the SPSS 25.0 package program. In the analysis of the data; Pearson Correlation Analysis, t-test for Independent Groups, One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), Scheffe Test, Welch Test, Tamhane Test were used. As a result of the research; a significant relationship was found between cognitive flexibility level and perceived parental attitude in adolescents. While it was determined that there is a moderate, positive, and significant relationship between cognitive flexibility level and perceived democratic parental attitude in adolescents; it was determined that there is a moderate, negative, and significant relationship between cognitive flexibility level and perceived protective/anticipatory and authoritarian parental attitude in adolescents. In addition, cognitive flexibility differs according to gender, number of siblings, school type; yet that it did not differ according to the age variable. It was found that the perceived democratic parental attitude differs according to the variables of the number of siblings and the type of school; yet, there was no differentiation according to gender and age variables. It was found that the perceived protective/anticipatory parental attitude differs according to the school type variables and it was determined that it did not differ according to gender, age, and number of siblings. In future studies, it is recommended to work with individuals at different developmental stages, to use scales with different parental attitudes, and to include parents as well as adolescents.
