The research about the difference between high-school students in their social support levels and styles of making decisions

The main aim of that study is to examine the difference between high-schools in their social support levels and styles of making decisions. Percieved Social Support Scale (PSSS) and Decision Making Scale for Adolescents (DMSA) were applied to 776 (402 girl and 374 boys) high-school students. The data acquired in that study are mesured by with single factor MANOVA, Kruskal Wallis-H Test and with single factor ANOVA in order to define the relationship between the varieties.The students were divided into three groups according to their being the first, the middle, or the last child of their parents. It is seen that the order of birth does not have a meaningful effect on their percieved social support levels. However, the study also showed that there is a meaningful difference in the styles of making decisions. According to that study, middle children make decisions more prudently.Students were divided into groups as their results from kinds of percieved social supports (as high, average and low). Then, the with a single factor MANOVA results applied to the DMSA points of the students showed that different kinds of social support have meaning effects. The data also showed that the group of students who percieved a high social support from the families have higher points in self respect and panic styles and lower points in unawareness and irresponsibility styles. Moreover, prudently-selecting points are higher in that group and these points are getting lower related to the increase of perception of social support from the family of the other group. Also it is found out that, the order made from high to low according to their points of percieved social support from friends is similar with their points of self-respect. The groups that have high and average points of social support perception from friends had higher prudently-selecting points compared with the group that has low point of social support perception from friends. The group that had social support perception from a teacher had higher points in having self respect in making decisions and prudently-selecting styles. It is observed that there is no meaningful difference in panic, unawaress and irresponsibility points of the groups according to their social support perceptions from friends or teachers.Keywords: Order of birth, Percieved social support, decision making styles.
