Abstract (EN)
The aim of the study was to investigate the relationship between coping strategies and self-image scores gender, birth order, socio-economic status and class status. The study was carried out among 282 first and second year students of which 145 were female and 137 were male subjects were all high school students in Adana region in 2000-2001 academic year. Coping strategies were measured by Coping Strategy Scale (CSS) and self-image by "Offer Self-image Questionnaire" (OS1Q). The data was analyzed using correlation coefficient, the 'f test and analysis of variance techniques. The Results revealed a relationship between self-image and avoiding strategies. Males as compared to females and those subjects coming from higher socio-economic status as compared to those coming from lower socio-economic status revealed higher self-image scores. Birth order and school yearl was not corelated with the self-image scores of teenagers. vnAlso there was no correlation found between birth order, school year and stress coping strategies. However gender did create a difference where female students used more social support and avoiding strategies than male students and second year students used problem solving and avoiding more than first year students.
