Abstract (EN)
Community centres were culture centres founded between the years 1932- 1951. On 19 February 1932, community centres were opened in 14 cities (Ankara, İstanbul, Eskişehir, Çanakkale, Aydın, Bolu, Malatya, Diyarbakır, Konya, Samsun, Bursa, İznik, and Denizli). Community centres had 9 sections: Language-Literature and History Section, Fine Arts Section, Acting Section, Sports Section, Social Aid Section, Public Courses Section, Library and Publication Section, Village Section, and Museum and Exhibition Section. Community centres can be described as "the house of the public". Citizens gathered together in the community centres which contributed to the social and cultural development of the public in accordance with the principles and revolutions of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. In this study, information regarding the Eskişehir community centre journal is presented, and the activities of the community centres located in and near Eskişehir are described using the various issues of this journal. With the multi-party political system, the activities of community centres were perceived as a problem in terms of the opposition, and when the Democratic Party came into power, community centres were closed on 1951May 2 th.
