Relationship between attachment styles and interpersonal sensitivity in married individuals

Attachment behavior that begins in infancy has great significance at advanced stages of life. Attachment between a primary caregiver and child determines the character and many behaviors of individuals. In this study, attachment styles and interpersonal sensibility of married individuals were analyzed. Participants were randomly selected married people aged between 25-40 years living in İstanbul. The Relationship Scale Questionnaire, Interpersonal Sensitivity Scale and Personal Information Form were used for data collection. Descriptive statistical methods were used for evaluation of obtained data. In the comparison of quantitative data, Mann Whitney U was used for investigation of relation between scale and gender, and Kruskal Wallis H for investigation of relation between scale and age, educational status, and monthly income level. Additionally, SpearmanCorrelation Coefficient was controlled to determine the relation between attachment styles and interpersonal sensibility. Based on findings, while the relationship between safe and indifferent attachment and interpersonal sensibility was positive, apprehensive attachment and interpersonal sensibility was negatively related. As further results show, indifferent and apprehensive attachment levels are higher in men compared to women, while safe attachment and interpersonal sensibility levels are higher in those with income of 2000 YTL and lower. No significant results were found between sociodemographic characteristics like age, number of siblings, and loneliness level of participants. Suggestions were made to investigators and psychological counselors working in the field based on findings at the end discussion. Key Words : Attachment Styles, Interpersonal Sensivity
