Abstract (EN)

This study presents an analysis of the Red Dot Design Awards in the context of universal design principles and technological developments. Universal design is an approach aimed at making products and environments accessible to the widest range of people regardless of age and ability. In this context, products that received awards in the product design category of the Red Dot Design Competition between 2011 and 2022 were evaluated in terms of universal design principles and technology. The primary goal of this study is to determine the extent to which the award-winning products in the Red Dot Design Competition adhere to universal design principles and to evaluate them technologically. By examining Red Dot award-winning products within the framework of universal design principles, the study aims to assess how successful these designs are based on these principles. Additionally, the award-winning products were classified as High Technology, Medium Technology, and Low Technology according to the classification system used by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union, to monitor technological progress and innovation. The study highlights the impact of technological developments on industrial design processes and their importance for global competitiveness.
