Vocational social support perceptions of teachers of working in public high schools (Example of Ümraniye town)

The aim of this research is to analyse the perceived vocation social support levels of teachers working in public high schools of İstanbul in terms of some variables, the type of special education school, gender, education level, age, gender, length of service, marriage, and to give suggestions from this point of view. Data collecting process has two different parts: First part is based on personal knowledge about the teachers. Second part consists "Kaner vocation social support" Survey. The study group consisted of 423 participants attending National Ministry of Education high schools located in Istanbul during the academic year of 2012-2013. The data obtained were analyzed using SPSS statistical significance at the 0.05 level were examined. In order to examine the differences between the mean social support scores of the study groups, parametric and nonparametric tests were used for statistical analysis. After Normal distribution search resault T-test or Mann Whitney U-test ,Variance Analysis (ANOVA) or Kruskal Wallis H-test were used to determine If these were related to the variables.Frequency and percentage calculations were made in order to determine the distributions related to the characteristics of the study group. In the evaluation of research data, t-test Analysis and Pearson Product-Moment Correlation and Coefficient Analysis techniques were used. Following results were obtained from the study, according to the teachers' perceptions, there is no significant differences according to the education level, age, gender and length of service. On the other hand, according to the teachers' perceptions, there are significant differences according to the graduated school type, administration experience and need of social support. The findings of this study were discussed and suggestions for practice were provided. Key Words: Social Support, Type of High School, Teachers
