Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is determining the effects of the monoblok appliance that applied for CI II malocclusion patients, on the Temporomandibular joint using Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). Our study, Dicle University Faculty of Dentistry Department of Orthodontics clinic admitted to skeletal CI II and mandibular retrognatia with functional orthopedic treatment indication 40 working group patients and 20 control group patients entered the peak period were included. All statistical analyses were performed using the SPSS software package (SPSS for Windows Release 15). For the assessment of the method error, the MRIs were traced and evaluated twice. Dahlberg formula was used for the method error calculation. Therefore, parametric tests were used for the statistical analysis. A paired-sample t-test was used to evaluate the treatment and observation changes within each group. To compare the changes observed in both groups, an independent-sample t-test was performed. A paired-sample t-test was used to evaluate differences between the left and right TMJs. The significance levels used were p <.001, p <.01, and p <.05. Sagittal discrepancy were corrected and Class I dental-arch relationships were observed after monoblock therapy. Mandibula moved forward significantly. The overjet and overbite were decreased. The findings of this study showed that the condyle was located more anteriorly within the fossa and no statistically significant changes occurred in the location of the disc relative to the condyle. The pre-treatment physiologic disc-condyle-fossa relationship was unaffected by monoblock treatment.
