Examination of team cohesion and narcissism levels in football players

The aim of this research is to examine the levels of team cohesiveness and narcissistic personality traits of football players. The population of this study, which will be organized in accordance with the descriptive and relational scanning model; It consists of 542 amateur and professional football players aged 17 and over who are registered to the Turkish Football Federation and have their licenses visaned for the 2021 - 2022 football season. Data regarding the study; Narcissistic Personality Inventory, which was created by Ames, Rose and Anderson in 2006 and adapted into Turkish by Atay (2009), and Group Cohesion Inventory, developed by Carron, Widmeyer and Brawley (1985) and adapted into Turkish by Öcel and Aydın (2006). It was obtained with the demographic information form prepared by the researcher. Since the data obtained showed normal distribution, parametric tests were applied. As a result of the examinations, professional and amateur football players' team cohesiveness scale sub-dimensions include group task attractiveness, group task integrity and group social integration sub-dimensions; A significant difference was observed between the exhibitionism and self-efficacy sub-dimensions of the narcissistic personality inventory. As a result of the examinations, the average scores of the football players who have been playing football for 1-5 and 6-10 years in all sub-dimensions of the team cohesion scale in terms of the variable of years of playing football are higher than those who have been playing football for 11-15 and 16 or more years. According to the variable of years of playing football, the average scores of those who have been playing football for 16 or more years are lower than those of football players who have been playing for 1-5, 6-10 and 11-15 years. As a result of the examinations made on football players, it was determined that the sub-dimensions of the team cohesiveness scale and the narcissistic personality trait were in a negative and strong relationship in the football players' axis.
