Abstract (EN)
The purpose of this study is to put forward how the serial murders conducted in Izmir between 26-30 April 2012 were expressively constructed in the newspaper pages.According to the first hypothesis of this study, the news are edited narrations of the real-life situations. The second hypothesis claims that press, journalists and the readers are social agents that contribute to the social reality or meaning construction with their social behaviors, interactions and cognitive activities. According to the third hypothesis, the newspapers that use a narrative style are masscommunication devices that presents the serial murder texts with various renditions. In this respect 10 national newspapers that are known to cover whole Turkey with their political and structural tendencies are classified according to their notions and mass journalism. Within the framework of the chosen subject a 5 day publication of these papers are analyzed by implementing the Russian morphologist Propp?s story analysis method to the newspapers. Within this context the national papers are identified as Cumhuriyet, Zaman, Radikal, Halkın Gazetesi Birgün, Milliyet, Hürriyet, Posta, Sabah, Habertürk and Güneş. Primarily, the newspapers in question were evaluated corporately according to their genres. Later news about these papers were examined with their corporate features in mind and sample news about Izmir serial murders from these papers were commented according to their clause and text structures. For the analysis of this study,14 functions were concluded according to Izmir serial murder stories. As a result of the analysis, it was concluded that serial murder news were narrated as an epicstory. Nevertheless, social reality of the serial murder news were constructed with rendition, repetition and binary opposition as a result of their mythological and fictional structure. Another outstanding point while doing news analysis according to their functions is that the serial murder cases were published with a victim-murderer binary opposition and the repeating functions re-produce and re-construct the social reality that belongs to these oppoisitons.Keywords:1.News2.Serrial Murder3.Construction of the Reality4.Narration5.Hamdi Ayri
