Abstract (EN)

The manuscript entitled Farah al-Kalb, which was prepared as a master thesis, is registered as number B1015 at the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts of the Russian Academy of Sciences in St. Petersburg. The text is thought to be part of a compendium based on information provided in catalogs. We only have a digital copy of the pages 22b-112a that cover the work called Farah al-Kalb and the contents titled Farah al-Kalb. This study is limited to pages 22b-54a of the text. Another copy of the work with inventory number 6211/1 is available in the Uzbekistan Academy of Sciences. Farah al-Kalb is found out to have been written by the author named ǾAbd-ar-Rahman bin Qurban bek in 1863-1864, based on information obtained from catalog scans. The author is also referred to as Ar-Rahman-al-ǾUbaydí in literary terms, but used the pseudonym Abdí in his poetic pieces. Written in a mixture of poetry and prose in the Chagatai Turkish language, Farah al-Kalb has been evaluated as a religious-mystical text transcribed in the Eastern Turkish area in terms of both content and the information in the catalogs. The text transcribed in the 19th century demonstrates the philological characteristics of both classical Chagatai Turkish period texts and the philological characteristics of the late Chagatai Turkish language. Additionally, the language features of Uzbek Turkish and New Uyghur Turkish, which are the modern-day extensions of Chagatai Turkish, can also be observed in the text. Therefore, evaluating Farah al-Kalb in terms of its language features, which has not been the subject of any previous studies, is important in terms of tracking the process leading to contemporary Turkish dialects, demonstrating the state of Chagatai Turkish in the 19th century, and contributing to future Turkish language and history research. The content of the thesis consists of "Introduction," "Text," "Index," and "Facsimile" of the work. In the introduction section of the study, the purpose of the thesis is stated, after information is provided about the manuscript with Arabic script, and the manuscript is described. Then, information is given about the language of the work and the late Chagatai Turkish period it belongs to, and the grammar characteristics of the text, remarkable spellings, phonetics, shape characteristics and vocabulary of the text are emphasized. Afterwards, the Arabic-script text is transcribed into written language. In the index section, the meanings in the text of the words used are given, and the source languages of the relevant words are identified. In the facsimile section, the facsimile of the Arabic-script manuscript between 22b-54a, which is within the scope of the study, is presented.
