Documentation of traditional Siverek houses and proposals for conservation

In this thesis, traditional houses which are located within historical urban texture of Siverek, Şanlıurfa, and have unique characteristics are examined throughout architecture. This study is composed of five chapters as a result of drawing plans of 86 traditional Siverek houses that can be reached during the field study and evaluating the architectural formation. In the first chapter; aim, content and method of thesis are specified. Next, studies about Siverek and papers regarding to traditional houses of district are analyzed and literatures are summarized. In the third part the methodology and materials have been used are given. Geographic, historic, climatic, social and economic aspects and historical structures which form traditional urban texture are explained. Plan and façade formation, construction system, material usage in architectural features of traditional Siverek houses are also cited in chapter as a subject of this thesis. In the fourth chapter, the conservation problems of Siverek's historical urban texture are examined in terms of changes in social and architectural structures. In the final chapter, by evaluation of the field study, conservation proposals are presented in order to solve the problems of social structure, historical urban texture and traditional houses of Siverek.
