Abstract (EN)
In this study, the situations experienced in school and classroom management in schools where immigrant students are concentrated were analyzed. The aim of the research is to understand the obstacles encountered in the educational process of immigrant students, the factors affecting their success, and the situations in which they need support. The results of the research are aimed to provide guidance to educational administrators, teachers, and relevant stakeholders in developing effective methods in the process of migrant students' adaptation to school and increasing their academic achievement. In the study, the opinions of 5 school administrators and 11 teachers working in schools where immigrant students are concentrated in the central district of Düzce province were obtained through face-to-face interviews. The interviews, conducted through a semi-structured interview form, were interpreted using the content analysis method. According to the results of the research, although negative situations were more common, positive situations were also encountered. The research findings indicate that immigrant students have both positive and negative effects on school and classroom management. The relationships between immigrant students and other students exhibit positive and negative effects that are reflected in school management. The academic performance of immigrant students also has positive and negative effects on school and classroom management. Immigrant students contribute positively and negatively to the school environment. The problems experienced with immigrant students encompass pedagogical, administrative, and social aspects, and school administrators engage in administrative activities to support immigrant students. While migrant students have negative effects on school and classroom management, such as communication barriers, behaviors that go against classroom rules, violence, difficulties in class participation, and challenges in processing the curriculum, they also have positive effects, such as facilitating language learning, discovering talents, promoting multiculturalism, and fostering empathy. When examining the relationships between migrant students and other students, negative situations such as peer violence, exclusion, and labeling were identified, but there were also positive situations such as learning empathy, cultural interaction, and peer learning. Analyzing the academic performance of migrant students revealed negative situations, such as difficulties due to language barriers and low motivation, but also positive situations, such as some migrant students outperforming their peers. When assessing the effects of immigrant students on the school, it was concluded that some parents held positive attitudes, while others had negative attitudes, thus influencing the school climate positively or negatively.
