Logic education in today's Bitlis madrasah (Example of Norşin Madrasahs)

It is demonstrated that the madrasahs, which have a deep-rooted tradition in Islamic thought culture, rested on vizier of State of Seljuks called Nizammülmülk. After this era, madrasahs attained a regular and systematic structure. Although, madrasahs had become the high level of education during Ottoman Empire, they had remained unofficially in the East after the declaration of the Republic. The madrasahs in Bitlis area were valuable example of these. The subject of this study is the logic works, which were used at madrasahs of Ottoman, especially Norşin Madrasah in the Bitlis region of the Eastern Anatolia. In addition, the opinions of lecturers and students in the Norşin Madrasah regarding the logic science and the quality of logic education are within the limits of this study. This study is divided into three parts. In the first part, there are the development process of logic into the Islamic world, the concept of madrasah and the historical development of madrasahs. Also, the logic education and the logic work taught in the Ottoman madrasahs are examined. In the second part of the study, information about the general structure and curriculum of Eastern Anatolian Madrasahs is given. Furthermore, the madrasahs established in Bitlis area and continue to exist today are cited and the logic works taught in Bitlis madrasahs are examined. The third part of study firstly gives general information about Norşin Madrasah. Secondly, It is mentioned in terms of the education activities of the madrasahs, the interests of teachers and students against the science of logic, and logic work taught.
