Indicators of social violence in contemporary art

Violence is a phenomenon that begins with the existence of humanity and is the subject of art in every period of history. The phenomenon of violence, which has changed according to the political, economic, social and social conditions of the period and the cultural structures of the societies in the historical process, has found its existence not only in action but also in all areas of life with its broad definition. And it has been used effectively as a source of power in every period. The imagery of violence through works of art started with seeing it as a tool and an effective way to find solutions to the problems and complex realities of existence in primitive societies and to dominate nature. Throughout the history of civilization, images of violence have served to monumentalize heroism as the source, support and glorifying power of power. The images of violence in the hegemony of authority have changed with the socio-cultural climate created by the French Revolution and have turned into a field of resistance where questioning and critical perspective are expressed. In the 20th century, the collapse of monarchies and the establishment of nation societies, the emergence of wars, revolutions and new doctrines, the emergence of many components created by the internal dynamics of industrialization and modernist social structure, the development of social movements and reactions, the existence of violence with its intense and diversified definitions than before caused. Parallel to the violence experienced, it is seen that the artists reflect their critical views against the destructions caused by violence, wars and crimes against humanity with their own image language, question them and put art as a power against violence. Today, violence, which is based on political, economic, religious and ethnic bases, increasing with different instruments, especially terrorist formations, globalizing and threatening life, is dealt with more as a subject by artists, kept on the agenda and is the image of stance against wars and violence in the interdisciplinary field and visual reflector. In this context, the political, social and social causes and consequences of the phenomenon of violence as a subject in art, the forms of imagery and the approach of art against violence have been researched and examined with their intellectual and formal aspects. In addition to the theoretical research carried out within the framework of the subject, applied studies were also carried out.
