Abstract (EN)

The terminology of "hegemonic masculinity", which focuses on the inclusion/exclusion mechanisms of masculinity as a hierarchical order, enables important discussions in understanding and analyzing the legitimacy possibilities and forms of relationship of the masculine system. This thesis, which discusses with the concepts and institutions of the hierarchical order of male power, focuses on the construction of hegemonic masculinity in the media discourse. The media has a critical function in the reconstruction of patriarchal gender representations. Cooking programs, one of the popular contents of TV channels, constitute a cross-section of the mentioned function of the media. The analysis of the form and content of the "Gelinim Mutfakta", which was examined with the method of critical discourse analysis, shows that the program in the competition format confirms the patriarchal gender order. In this regard, the cooking program "Gelinim Mutfakta" (My Bride is in the Kitchen), which is broadcast on Kanal D TV and consists of only female participants, is examined. The "Gelinim Mutfakta", whose name is an adjective designating masculinity expression, takes place in a competitive environment based on the determination of the best performer of the traditional woman-kitchen relationship. The motivation of the bride-kitchen relationship, which points to a gender-based area of responsibility, is to develop skills to meet the demands of the man. This man has a dominant representation who is married, has a regular job, can balance between his mother and wife, and is fond of his stomach. The data obtained from the analysis of the actions and discourses of the participants and the format of the program show that the hegemonic masculinity representation in question is approved by the large masses through the media.
