Abstract (EN)
Excavation of ancient cities requires long working periods over decades and a multidisciplinary study in which many experts will be involved. Aside from the supply of specialist staff and equipment that will be needed, even financing this long-term study poses a significant problem, especially for a country such as our country, which is so rich in terms of archaeological remains. The factors that played a role in the selection of the ancient city of Ephesos in our study can be summarized as the city's national and international recognition and being one of our well-preserved ancient cities. Ephesos is one of our ancient cities that have been systematically excavated for 150 years since 1893, geological and geophysical studies have been carried out, the settlement history and city plan have been studied, and the stages of development have been examined. The site plans prepared by evaluating the archaeological findings and in situ data together with the archaeological findings unearthed in the excavations, supported by aerial photographs, enable us to reach very valuable data about the planning setup and use of the city. The 'remote sensing' and 'geophysics' researches that enable the inclusion of data that have not yet been unearthed in these plans and that we have seen widely used in recent years; This technology was also used in Ephesos excavations, it is clear that it will make valuable contributions to archaeological studies. By reading the city plans in which all these obtained data are combined, valuable inferences will be made about the planning fictions of ancient cities, and this knowledge from the past will provide us with valuable clues in the planning of modern cities. Within the scope of our study, the most intensively used areas of the city, the city core, the most heavily used pedestrian axes or the most isolated areas will be tried to be determined with the spatial analyzes to be made by applying the 'Space Syntax Analysis Method' (MDAY=Space Syntax) specific to the Ancient City of Ephesus. As a result, the usability of MDAY., a mathematical model that can also be used in archaeological studies, in reading the spatial organization of ancient cities will be discussed.
