Abstract (EN)
This research is conducted for evaluating the communication and empathy skills of nurses who work in hematology clinics as well as being a descriptive study. The research is conducted in the hematology clinics of Atatürk Training and Research Hospital, Gazi University Hospital, Hacettepe University Hospital and Ankara Numune Training and Research Hospital between the dates of December 2014 and June 2015. It is created 76 samples of nurses who work in hematology clinics. In the data collection, it is used socio-demographical data collection form, Communication Skills Assessment Scale (CSAS) and Empathic Skills Assessment Scale (ESAS) for nurses. Among the nurses who participated to the research; 48.7% is in 26-35 age group; 53.9% is married; and 27.6% is working in C Hospital; 53.9% is working as nurse; 71.1% is working in hematology clinics for between 12-36 months; 61.8% is working with a watch-and-rotation system; and 75% is working as service nurse. Even if it could not be observed an statistically significant relationship between CSAS and ESAS which are applied to hematology nurses, it is specified a weak, positively and linear relationship. According to the result of the study, despite there is a relationship between communication skills and empathy skills in accordance with the studied literature, it could not be specified any relationship in this study. The effectiveness in communication skills does not mean that the empathy skills will also be effective. This study is prepared peculiar to hematology field and it is especially recommended that to examine and to evaluate the communication and empathy skills of the nurses peculiar to many areas.
