Abstract (EN)
Disease and hemodialysis treatment have negative effects on adaptation to the illness and the quality of life, and functional performance status might deteriorate considerably. It is a descriptive study which aims to explore the functional performance status, the quality of life and the level of knowledge about fistula care, and to assess the adjustment with a hemodialysis treatment and needs of hemodialysis patients. The study was conducted at hemodialysis centre in period of six months. The study was approved by the hemodialysis centre administration and the verbal informed consent was obtained from patients. Data was collected using Patient Information Form, Rolls Royce Quality of Life Scale, Functional Performance Inventory-Short Form and Fistula Care Survey. Data analysis was performed using SPSS software (Statistical Package for Social Sciences). Mean scores of Functional Performance Inventory-Short Form were 1.48±0.72 (dağılım: 0.00-3.00). Females and patients who could not continue to work due to illness or hemodialysis treatment had lower functional performance (p<0.05). Mean scores of Rolls Royce Quality of Life Scale were 121.47±9.37 (range: 91.00-172.00). Patients aged 70 years or over, males (except for Medical Interaction subscale), literate patients, those who continue to work despite their illness or treatment and those who have not received any training about care during hemodialysis had worse quality of life (p<0.05). Mean score of Fistula Care Survey was 78.19±5.44 (range: 53.00-92.00). Patients aged 70 or over, patients who continue to work and those who are self-employed had lower Fistula Care Information Form scores (p<0.05). Exploring the variables which influence the adherence to hemodialysis is crucial in improving the effectiveness of the treatment and achieving positive health outcomes. In order to eliminate the factors which hinder the adherence to hemodialysis treatment, it is suggested to develop continuous education programs and cognitive-behavioural interventions which might improve coping with hemodialysis treatment.
