Abstract (EN)

Objective: This study was conducted to examine the structural and experimental effects of emotion regulation training on emotion regulation, resilience, coping and self-esteem of nurses. Material and Methods: The research consists of 2 studies as quasi-experimental and cross-sectional. Emotion regulation training was carried out with 36 training group nurses and 36 control group nurses between January and March 2020. Structural equation model data were collected from 422 nurses working at Aydın Adnan Menderes University, Practice and Research Hospital between October and December 2019. Descriptive statistics were used in the analysis of the data, and ANOVA and Structural Equation Model were used for repeated measurements. Results: In the first stage of the study, according to the Structural Equation Model, as a result of the Structural equation model; There is a negative (-.57) relationship between cognitive reappraisal and suppression. Cognitive reappraisal positively affects resilience (λ= .52 p<.001) and self-esteem consistency (λ= .65 p<.001). It was found that suppression negatively affects resilience (λ= -.38 p<.001), coping (λ= -.45 p<.001) and self-esteem consistency (λ= -.20 p<.001). In the second stage of the research, the cognitive reappraisal mean scores of the nurses in the training group were found to be high (F= 24.41; p<0.001). When evaluated in terms of time factor, it was determined that there were significant increases in the posttest, 1st and 3rd month cognitive reappraisal of nurses after education compared to pre-training (F=42.53; p<0.001). It was determined that the posttest, 1st month and 3rd month suppressions of the training group nurses were significantly reduced compared to the control group nurses (F= 61.66; p<0.001). It was determined that the posttest, 1st and 3rd month self-esteem consistency of the nurses in the training group increased significantly compared to the pre-training period (F=80.42; p<0.001). It was determined that the posttest, 1st month and 3rd month psychological resilience of the training group nurses were significantly higher than the control group nurses (F=205.308; p<0.001). It was determined that the posttest, 1st month and 3rd month coping strategies of the training group nurses were significantly higher than the control group nurses (F=47.233; p<0.001). Conclusion: In this study, it was determined that emotion regulation training increased nurses' emotional regulation, resilience, coping and self-esteem consistency scores, and it was a structural model between emotion regulation, resilience, coping, and self-esteem.
