Investigation of the relationship between the professional self-respect and care behaviors of nurses

The research was carried out in relation-seeking and cross-sectional-descriptive type in order to determine the relationship between nurses' professional self-esteem and care behaviors. The research was carried out with 505 nurses working in the city hospital in Kayseri city center between October and December 2021 and included in the sample. The data of the study were obtained with the "Nurse Introductory Information Form", "Professional SelfEsteem Scale (MBS)" and "Caring Behaviors Scale (BDI)" prepared by the researcher. Written permissions and ethical approval were obtained for the study. Research data were evaluated with internal reliability coefficient Chronbaha Alpha analysis, descriptive statistics, independent groups t test, ANOVA analysis of variance, Pearson Correlation Analysis and Linear Regression analysis. In the study, the level of significance was taken as p<0.05. In the study, the average age of the nurses was 33.15±8.10 years, 36.2% were between the ages of 22-27, 71.9% were female, 61% were married, 91.9% lived in a nuclear family, 55.2% had children, 87.8% It has been determined that 50.1% of them have a bachelor's degree or higher, and 50.1% consider their income less than their expenses. 38.1% of the nurses worked in the profession for 1-5 years, 77.4% of them worked in the unit they currently work for between 1-4 years, 40.2% in internal units, 78.8% in mixed form and 93.7% in the service nurse position. found to be working. It was determined that 51.3% of the nurses did not prefer the unit they worked in, 49.9% of them had 6-10 patients per nurse in the unit they worked, 50.5% were not satisfied with the nursing profession, and 73.1% evaluated the image of the nursing profession in the society negatively. In the study, it was determined that the most important reason for the lack of vii care in the unit where the nurses work was the insufficient number of nurses, the high number of patients given daily care, the inability to spare time for care due to off-duty work and the nurses not working in the service they wanted. In the study, it was determined that the nurses' MSDS scores were 95.86±15.20 on average and they had a moderate level of professional self-esteem, while they got an average of 5.14±0.69 points from the BDI and their patient care quality perception levels were high. In the study, it was found that there was a positive and very low significant relationship between nurses' professional self-esteem scores and their care behavior scores, and as the professional self-esteem level increased, nurses' care behaviors were positively affected. In the study, it was determined that there was a significant relationship between the nurses' professional self-esteem variable and the level of care behaviors, and the level of nurses' professional self-esteem and care behaviors significantly affected 3.9% of them. In conclusion; In the study, it was determined that there was a positive and very low significant relationship between nurses' professional self-esteem and care behaviors, and an increase in the level of professional self-esteem positively affected their care behaviors.
