Abstract (EN)

Shanghai Cooperation Organization, which is mentioned name and activities both in the Asian continent and in today's international society, was founded in 2001 by People's Republic of China, Russian Federation, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. In June 2017, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization accepted the full membership of India and Pakistan and increased its membership to eight. In addition to its full members, the organization has an important place in world politics with its observer members and dialogue partners. Initially, the organization seeking solutions to border problems has expanded its range over time. The organization underlined the fight against terrorism, extremism and separatism, which it regards as a security threat, in its steps to address regional problems. In addition to the security dimension, the organization, which gives importance to cooperation in economic, commercial, cultural, education and technology fields, has carried out many activities in line with the interests and expectations of its member countries. Political, security and economic factors are seen to be effective when the reasons that lead India to this membership are examined. At the beginning of political reasons, India will be able to meet two major rivals, China and Pakistan on the same platform. The underlying reason for the security issue is Kashmir Issue, the spread of instability in Afghanistan and the spread of drug trafficking in the region. Finally, the economic reasons are to improve the economic cooperation with the member countries and to supply the energy requirement.
