Abstract (EN)
Investigating the relation between sleep disturbance and extensive geriatric evaluation on nursing home residents Aim: Aim of our study is to determine factors which affect sleep quality by way of doing extensive geriatric evaluation on nursing home residents aged 65 and older. Material and Methods: In the present study, 107 residents consist of 67 women 40 men were enrolled. Mean age is 82.40 ± 6.33. Extensive geriatric evaluation was executed and findings were recorded. Sleep qualities (PUKI-Standford) of recipients were interpreted. Results: Results of the present study demonstrate that, % 34.7 of the recipient's scores are <5 according to Pitsburg scale, % 65.3 of the recipients'' scores are >5. When findings are classified according to SF-36 scores, there is negative mild linear correlation between Standford sleepiness scale scores and subtypes of SF-36 which are physical function, general health condition, vigor, social function and emotional function. It is statistically meaningful. (orderly; rho= -0.307, p=0.002, rho=-0.274, p=0.006, rho= -0.349, p<0.001, rho= -0.242, p=0.015, rho= -0.248, p=0.012). There is positive, statically meaningful and linear correlation between PUKI scores and all subtypes of SF-36 scale. Our study indicates that one of the risk factors which result in bad sleep quality is life quality of the elder adults. Conclusions: Our study show that, bad sleep quality problem is seen very often among elder residents in nursing homes.
