Abstract (EN)

Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr is undoubtedly one of the significant figures of the Andalusian civilization. Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr, with his multifaceted scholarly personality and experience in fiqh al-hadīth, has earned the title of muhaddith (hadīth expert) and faqīh (Islamic jurist). Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr's scholarly attainments spanned various fields from hadīth to fiqh, history to qirāʼah (Qurʾānic recitation), and literature to ethics. Throughout his nearly century-long life, his contributions were so substantial that the 5th Hijrī century is referred to as the " Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr era." His work titled "Al-Ajwiba al-Mustawʿaba ʿan al-masāil al-mustagraba" stands as a concrete example of the integration of fiqh al-hadīth, mushkil al-hadīth and gharīb al-hadīth. In this work, Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr responds to questions posed by the Andalusian Mālikī scholar Muhallab b. Abī Sufra regarding twenty-two challenging and problematic hadīths in Sahīh al-Bukhārī, clarifying their meanings and resolving their ambiguities.
