Music policy of the Ottoman government in the period of II. Abdülhamid

In the Ottoman government, which has an ancient tradition, music as an important part of culture, as in many periods. It is also given importance during the reign of II. Abdülhamid. When we look at the music policies of the period, although a Western music-oriented understanding is dominant, Turkish music also finds a place for itself in many areas. II, in which a dualist understanding is adopted. During the reign of II. Abdülhamid, Turkish music came out of the patronage of the palace, became integrated with the public with the change in its content and took on a form that appealed to the public. This situation includes some data that will shed light on the future periods on behalf of Turkish music and forms the basis for the music policies of the republican period. This thesis, to examine the musical activities of the II. Abdülhamid period and the music policy of the Ottoman government; as well as general information about II. Abdülhamid, II. Abdülhamid period focuses on revealing the political and social situation of the Ottoman government. In this thesis, the musical practices that took place during the reign of II. Abdülhamid and the music policy of the Ottoman government were determined by a literature study. In this framework, documents related to the subject were examined, document analysis was used while evaluating the data obtained, and finally, the data were summarized and interpreted by making descriptive analysis.
