Abstract (EN)

The aim of our thesis is to examine the architectural decoration elements seen in the II. Rusa period from a technical and stylistic perspective. In this context, first of all, the materials in which the ornaments were made in the Urartian Kingdom were discussed and the structures and their prominent structures were depicted. Thus, the change process of architectural ornaments until the II Rusa period can be seen more clearly. Afterwards, five fortresses known to have been built during the II. Rusa Period were discussed and general information such as their location, excavation and research dates and architectural structures were given. In this context, the fortresses of Karmir-Blur, Bastam, Toprakkale, Adilcevaz-Kef and Ayanis are examined. The fresco, relief, engraving, carving, inlay and appliqué techniques were used in the architectural decorations of the fortresses. The fact that these data, which consists mostly of unique works, was not seen in the early Urartian Kingdom, led us to a different policy applied by the king in question. These data on architectural decorations have probably changed as a result of the king's peace policy. The Assyrian Kingdom, where they interacted intensively in every period of the kingdom, makes itself felt in this period as well. For this reason, the reflections of the motifs and figures were examined by making comparisons with the Assyrian art, where the architectural decoration elements were influenced. The lack of resources about the techniques used in the Urartian architectural decorations during the preparation of the thesis led to conducting interdisciplinary researches. However, the necessity of carrying out a study in this context for Urartian art was presented as a suggestion. In addition, studies on the extent and direction of the interaction between Assyrian and Urartian Kingdoms during the II. Rusa's peace policy will also illuminate this period.
