The influence of the first period tabakât studies on interpretation/hermeneutics and the example of İbn Sa'd

This research aims at examining the influence of the First Generation (Islamic Golden Age) tabaqat books on tafsir. AH. I-II century in general, and specifically the parameters of Ibn Sad's Kitab At-Tabaqat Al-Kabir in the history of tabaqat tafsir has been discussed within this context. In first chapter of the thesis, the initial period of tabaqat studies, examples and religious commentators and the dynamics leading to the emergence of tabaqat are mentioned. Second chapter examines the development process of biographies in religious literature through Ibn Sa'd and his studies. Third chapter elaborates the importance of tabaqat historiography, which emerged as a result of the biography writing process, in terms of the tafsir ilm as well as its manifestation in normative studies. Moreover, the role of Kitab At-Tabaqat Al-Kabir in the tafsir layer, with its effect on tafsir and tabaqat are discussed. Finally examples of tafsir tabaqat literature following Ibn Sa'd are expressed. On the other hand, it was stated that the tabaqat is not only chronological works that contain mere information on the name, birth, death, master and student through the perspective of religious commentators. In the light of all this information, reading and examining that work provides the readers with great benefit in terms of both sirah and tafsir literature; in addition this research presents its contribution to the tafsir literature.
