The comparison of reading and learning strategies which primary school 6th grade students use with the results of sbs

In this era, when science is advancing rapidly, the individual should be taught how to obtain knowledge rather than transferring it. At the same time , it is necessary for the individuals to read fast and understand what they read. That an individual obtains knowledge come true with his /her learning to learn. Learning to learn is that the individual know his /her own learning feature and find an appropriate strategy and apply it. Learning strategies are tools which are used about how and in what way a person learns.That reading,one of the most fundamental agents in education life, is carried out effectively faciliates self to learn. The realization of effective reading means the self understands what s/he reads. Variou strategies have been developed to faciliate this reading and understanding process.Using learning strategies is helpful for finding what is understood from reading and how mistakes made during reading is corected.The aim of this study is to determine the relations of reading and learning strategies Primary School 6th Grade students use with the results of SBS. 6170 students attending 2009-2010 instruction term in the province of Elazığ make up the population of the research. The sample is made up of 1689 6th grade students in Elazığ. The datum, necessary for the research to attain its aim, have been collected through a data collecting tool consisting of two different scales called ?Reading Strategies Scale? and ?Learning Strategies Form?. İn addition, the results of SBS that Students entered in 2010 have been used.The statistical analysis of research datum have been done, using SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) on computer. In the analysis of datum, percentage (%) and frequency have been taken and ?t test? and varience analysis have been carried out.Pearson Moment Correlation have been applied to examine the relation between reading and learning strategies and SBS results. Regression analysis has been utilized with the aim of investigating reading and learning strategies? predicting level about the results of SBS. In the statistical analysis made in the research, the level of meaningfulness has been accepted 05. The level of meaningfulness in correlations is 01.According to the results of the study, ın the regression analysis, learning strategies predicted SBS more, compared with reading strategies. When the relatonsihip between learning and reading strategies and the results of SBS is examined, ıt can be said there is an important relationship. From view of different variations, it has been seen that girls . used reading and learning strategies more than boys. Besides, it has been found that girls? SBS results are also higher than boys?. Further, reading and learning strategies and SBS results of students attending any course are higher compared with the students not going to course. Reading and learning strategies and SBS results of students having a private room in their houses are higher compared with the students not having a room. It has been seen that parents? education level, their occupations is an important factor in student?success.Key Words: Reading, Reading Comprehension, Learning, Learning Strategies
