Participation of primary school students in management and effects of this participation over the students

In this thesis, participation of primary school students in management and effects of this participation over the students is studied. The aim of this study is to make a contribution to Turkish Education System. In the theoretical part of this study, a literature survey has been conducted. As being the part of field work, a survey has been conducted, and its results has been assessed in the remaining part.The major purposes of Primary School Education are to make students be acquainted with social problems and to find solutions to these problems. To achieve tis purpose, the role of students in the management is important. However, presently, participation of students in management is not a sufficient level. Therefore, as a first step it is necessary to identify the level of participation in school management and then causes of this insufficient participation. One of the reasons of failure in application is the lack of democratic attitudes of teachers and managers.In the survey, conducted for this thesis, the level of participation of students (school assemblies, club works, being class captain, committees, etc.) has been analzed effects of this participation over the students. At the end of the research, it was found that the parcipation of the students was not enough. However their participation positively influenced their success in school, their attachment to school and their self-confidence. This research aims to be a guide for managers and educators in comprehension of how participation of students could be achieved at a satisfying level.Key Words: Education, Primary Education, School Management, Participation in the Management,Self-confidence
