Examination of reading dispositions of elementary school fourth grade students according to some veriables

The aim of this study is to examine the reading disposition of fourth grade elementary school students according to some variables (gender, mother's education level, father's education level, number of books read per month and out-of-school library use). Relational screening model was used in the research. Two separate working groups were identified in the study. The first working group was selected to perform the Exploratory Factor Analysis (AFA) and the second working group was selected to perform the Confirmatory Factor Analysis (DFA). The study group of the study consists of the fourth grade students in the schools selected by simple random sampling who are studying in the public primary schools in the city center of Burdur in the second semester of the 2020-2021 academic year and in the first semester of the 2021- 2022 academic year. The data of the study were collected with the "Student Recognition Form" and "Reading Disposition Scale" developed by the researcher. Data analysis was done with IBM SPSS Statistics and IBM SPSS AMOS package programs. The Cronboach Alpha reliability coefficient of the Reading Disposition Scale was calculated as 0,934. Independent Sample t Test, One Way Analysis of variance and descriptive statistics were used to analyze the data. At the end of the study, no significant difference was found between students' reading tendencies and gender, mother's education level and father's education level. However, a significant difference was determined between the reading disposition of the students and the number of books they read per month and their out-of-school library use.
