The attrıbutes and behavıors of prımary school techers and school admınıstrators towards bullyıng: The case of Beşiktaş

The safety and peacefulness of the school environment is very important in terms of proper child development. Negative experiences that children go through during school times can have negative effects on children in both short and long term. Bullying is one the most important events that can influence school environment negatively.Dealing with bullying earlier will affect the students positively to avoid such behaviours. Bullying today is accepted as a serious educational and social problem that affects a considerable population of students. In this respect, given that both teachers and school administrators are ones that can intervene to the problem in its very context, it is vital to determine the attributes and reactions of teachers and school administrators towards bullying.It is seen that when the teachers deal with bullying, the effects of bullying events decrease. This is very important for combating bullying. The basic aim of the present study is to determine the attributes and behaviors of primary school teachers and administrators towards bullying. In doing this, 105 teachers and administrators in İstanbul, Beşiktaş interviewed and the Survey of the Attributes of Teachers towards School Bullying was administrated. Datas are analyzed with SPSS which is statistics programme for Social Sciences. At the end of the survey, it was found no difference between the attributes of teachers and administrators forming groups of participants related to bullying behaviour at school and different demographic variables. The attribute points of the participants' opinions, behaviours and emotions are high and it is interpreted that the participants have the requested attributes.
