Abstract (EN)

Freedom of will is a very significant issue discussed in ancient religions and philosophies. This topic is also discussed in İslâm and many different opinions have emerged over the years. In this thesis, I studied İmam Mâtürîdî's opinons concerning freedom of will by examining his work Te'vîlâtü'l-Kur'ân and 26th, 27th, and 28th verses of Surah al-Nisa. At the first hand, I briefly mentioned the life and works of İmam Mâtürîdî. Before it comes to our main topic, I described the concept of will as focal point of our study. Later, I defined the concepts of kader, kaza, kudret, fiiller, kesb, rızık, and ecel. I categorized and defined the va-riety of will in terms of its perpetrators. Thereafter, I defined the will according to sunni and other sects. In the second chapter, I made a defition of Surah al-Nisa and a content analysis of this Surah and examined the reason for its revelation. I mentioned the opinios of some of first and last classical glossators concerning Surah al-Nisa. Finally, İmâm Mâturîdî's opinios about Surah al-Nisa were studied by examining his work Te'vîlâtu'l-Qur'ân. Keywords: Tafsir, Will, Freedom, Mâtürîdî, Sect, Opinion.
