Evaluation of sexual satisfaction and anxiety and depression status among infertile women and fertility women

Objective: The aim of this study is to comprehensively assess the relationship between anxiety, depression status, and sexual satisfaction among infertile women. Additionally, this research aims to investigate how these psychological and emotional aspects are correlated with the demographic characteristics of the participants. Through the examination of this relationship, the study aims to illuminate the complex dynamics contributing to the mental and sexual well-being of infertile women, while also aiming to shed light on the potential effects of demographic factors on their experiences. Materials and Methods: A study was conducted at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Infertility Clinic, and Gynecology Clinics of Dicle University Faculty of Medicine. A total of 100 infertile women aged between 18-40 years with a diagnosis of infertility, along with 100 fertile women within the same age range, were included in the study. Participants were requested to complete the Golombok Rust Sexual Satisfaction Scale and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale. The collected data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 22. Results: No significant difference was observed between the infertile and fertile groups in terms of anxiety and depression. Fertile women obtained higher scores compared to infertile women in certain aspects of sexuality (frequency and avoidance). However, there was no significant difference between the groups in terms of communication, touch, satisfaction, vaginismus, anorgasmia, and the quality of sexual intercourse. Conclusion: Socio-demographic variables have a significant impact on individuals' psychological and sexual well-being. These findings should be taken into consideration in clinical practices and counseling services. Particularly, differences among occupational groups highlight the importance of social and economic support mechanisms. This study lays the groundwork for more in-depth research on the subject.
