Abstract (EN)

Telek Mine, individuals with insulin resistance evaluation of nutritional status and thyroid function, Institute of Health Sciences, Nutrition and Dietetics Program, Graduate Thesis, Ankara, 2016 Although insulin level in the blood is normal or above normal, the sensitivity against insulin is decreased in muscle and fat tissue and liver and impairment of glycosis homeostasis arises. Insulin resistance is a complex cellular disorder that effects several organ systems and leads to serious metabolic disorders. Although it has been considered for several years that insulin resistance has effect on thyroid homones (sT3) and tyroxine (sT4), the effect of insulin on thyroid functions has not been completely understood yet. This study was performed in 93 adults between the ages of 20 – 64 who consulted to the Internal Medicine Polyclinic of Private Hospital of Kutahya City between 1.June.2013 and 31 July 2014, diagnosed with insuline resistance after routine biochemical tests and voluntarily accepted to participate in the study. A survey was conducted to determine the personal characteristics and food consumptions of the patients. Length, body weight, body fat mass, body mass except fat, body liquid percentage, abdominal fat mass of the patients participating in the study were recorded. Food consumption frequency form was filled in by the researcher by meeting the patients face to face. Daily food consumption status of the patients was calculated from the food consumption frequency. The age distribution of the individuals participating in the study were as follows: 2.2% (2 individuals) below the age of 20, 19.4% (18 individuals) 20 – 29, 37.6% (35 individuals) 30-39, 19.4% (18 individuals) 40-49, 15.1% (14 individuals) 50-59, 6.5% (6 individuals) above 60 years of age. The average length of male individuals was 171.0 ± 10.0 cm whereas the same was 160,84 ± 5,89 cm in female individuals. Average body weight of male and female individuals were 103.4 ± 22.3 kg and 94.7 ± 18.0 respectively. No significant relationship was found between HOMA-IR, TSH, sT3 and sT4 values according to BMI classification of the individuals p >0.05). No statistically significant relationship was determined between daily energy intake, AKG, insuline level, IR, TSH, sT3 and sT4 levels in individuals with insuline resistance.
