The assessment of parental attitutes towards the fear of negative evaluation of hearing and hearing ? impaired soccer players

Attitudes and behaviors of parents with whom individuals firstly establish communication as from their births may shape the behaviors and attitudes to be displayed by children in the coming years. Form of communication between parents and the child is one of the most important factors influencing emotional development of the child.The purpose of this study is to make a comparison between normally hearing football players and hearing impaired football players by examining attitudes of parents of normally hearing football players and hearing impaired football players as perceived by the individuals and by evaluating the relationship between their fear of negative evaluation levels.To this end, sample of the study contains a total of 504 football players, 380 of whom hear normally and 124 of whom are hearing impaired, in accordance with the size representing the universe.Personal information form, Mother Attitude Scale, Father Attitude Scale and Fear of Negative Evaluation Scale were used for data collection in the present study. Data obtained in the study were analyzed via SPSS program.It was found out that there was no significant relationship between parental attitude perceptions and fear of negative evaluation levels of normally hearing football players participating in the study although there is a difference between mean scores of them in the variables of training age, educational status of parents and profession of the mother (p>0.05), but the difference between fear of negative evaluation levels is statistically significant in the variable of the number of siblings; variables of maternal rejection, marriage status of parents; dimensions of maternal over-protectiveness and paternal rejection, variable of presence or absence of any disabled person in the family (p<0.05).It was realized that there was no significant relationship between parental attitude perceptions and fear of negative evaluation levels of hearing impaired football players participating in the study although there is a difference between mean scores of them in the variables of educational status, training age, educational status of parents, presence or absence of any disabled person in the family and knowing sign language (p>0.05), but the difference between fear of negative evaluation levels and maternal rejection perception and paternal emotional warmth perception is statistically significant in the variable of the number of siblings (p<0.05).As a conclusion, it was found out that there is a difference between parental attitude perceptions of normally hearing and hearing impaired football players, that is about whether their parents accept hearing disability; but there is no difference between their social anxiety levels, that is because social aspects of both groups have developed thanks to sport and hearing impaired individuals make evaluations about their situations according to the individuals of the society where they live rather than according to the normally hearing individuals.
