Abstract (EN)

This study has been made to evaluate the development of the language skills amongst the 2-7 years old children with hearing devices. This is an observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study. The research results have been obtained from the children with hearing difficulties who applied to Ege University Medical Faculty, the Department of Otolaryngology and those who are regularly followed at Audiology Unit of the hospital and the students of Private Ege Artı Special Training and Rehabilitation Center, Private Nefes Special Training and Rehabilitation Center, Parlak Ufuklar Nursery School and Neşe Erberk Nursery School. To evaluate the children language skills, Turkish Early Development Language Test (TEDİL) illustrated book, TEDİL Researcher Form and Case Report Form have been used in this research. The forms, used in the research have been given to 36 children (aged 2-7). The children were divided into two groups. The children in the first group had hearing difficulties and were using hearing devices. The second group was formed with the children with normal hearing abilities. During the study the group members in both groups had to be eliminated. In the patient group some of the children didn't go to Special Training and Rehabilitation Center regularly, some didn't use their hearing devices and some others didn't do the regular maintainance of their hearing devices. This children's results didn't evaluated. Control group was constituted from 2-7 age nursery school's children. The children who were selected for this research have been divided into two equal groups. Patient group consisted of the children with hearing aids and the control group consisted of the children with normal hearing abilities, all aged 2-7. All children were given Case Report Form, TEDİL illustrated book and TEDİL Researcher Form at the beginning of the research. In the third month and in the sixth month all children were given TEDİL illustrated book and TEDİL Researcher Form again. By examining the test results of the participants auditory language skills, speaking language skills and oral language skills, some datum has been obtained about the children's language development. In this study is determined that increasing the age of the children with hearing devices effects the test results of the receptive language 1, receptive language 2 and receptive language 3; expressive language 1, expressive language 2 and expressive language 3 point average. It is observed that there is statistically no meaningful difference and changes in terms of the point average of the linguistic language 1, linguistic language 2 and linguistic language 3. In the case, the increase of the age of the children with normal hearing, being no significant difference in the mean score of receptive language 1, receptive language 2 and receptive language 3, expressive language 1, expressive language 2 and expressive language 3; not being impressed positive to test results and not changing the average points was observed. Comparing with the score average of the receptive language, the expressive language and the linguistic language in the third and the sixth months of this study of the children with hearing devices and the the children with normal hearing is revealed statistically meaningful difference; and it was observed that receptive, expressive and linguistic languages development are more slowly the children who use hearing aids contrast to children with normal hearing. The score average of receptive language on the sixth months of the research is higher than the first and the third months at the children using the hearing device for 25 months and longer in the research. It is observed no changes with the average score of the receptive, expressive and the linguistic using the devices 12-24 months or 25 months and longer. There is no alteration on the average point of the receptive and linguistic languages for the patient in the case with continuing the rehabilitation center for 12-24 or 25 months or longer longer; but the average score of the expressive language is high than before. The result of this research has not been certainly surmised because of the short time between two practising test on the participant children and the limited participant. Otherwise, if the time between two tests icrease and the participant is no limited, this research will broadly perform and more reliable results can be obtained.
