Research on the corporate governance practices of foundation hospitals operating in İstanbul

New management understanding is required in rendering health services due to reasons such as widespread patient-centered service, increase in patient expectations, rapid change in medical information and cost control. In line with these developments, corporate governance practices, which are reinforced with the principles of transparency, accountability, equity and responsibility, have begun gaining importance in rendering health services. An attempt was made in this research to determine the corporate governance practices, which are implemented in foundation hospitals based upon corporate governance principles, in accordance with the perceptions of managers and doctors. The research was conducted in nine foundation university hospitals operating in İstanbul. The data were collected via survey method. T-test was used in finding the difference between the two groups in the comparison of quantitative data. One-way ANOVA test was used in the intergroup comparisons of the parameters. Scheffé's test was used in identifying the group that caused the difference.The study shows that foundation university hospitals are lacking in terms of awareness of corporate governance practices, but directors and employees trained in management and organization have good perception of the principle of transparency. Suggestions have been made on improving corporate governance practices of the foundation hospitals. Keywords: Corporate Governance, Board of Directors, Foundation Hospital
