The effect of perceived parental attitudes on social anxiety and perfectionism levels in university students İstanbul sampling

The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of perceived parental attitudes on perfectionism and social anxiety levels in university students Istanbul sampling. The sample of the study consists of 214 (%61.5) female and 134 (%38.5) male students of İstanbul univercities during 2018-2019 semesters. In the study " Demographic Information Form", "Parental Attitudes Scale", "Frost Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale" and "Liebowitz Social Anxiety Scale" were administrated to the participants. Data analysis was done by SPSS 25 package program. At the end of the study, it was found that the sum of the perfectionism scores, the perception of high parental criticism scores, and anxiety of female are more than the scores of male participants. It was found that there was a statistically significant positive correlation between the democratic mother and father attitudes with perfectionism. There was also a statistically significant positive correlation between the protective parental attitudes and the authoritarian parental attitudes with perfectionism. There was another statistically significant positive correlation between the anxiety and the avoidance rates with perfectionism. It was also found that several dimentions of perfectionism scale scores had a significant relationship with the anxiety and avoidance scores. At the end of the regression analysis it was found that different parental attitudes had a significant impact on several dimentions of social anxiety and perfecionism scales scores. The findings of the study were discussed in the light of data in literature.
