Abstract (EN)

Globalization, which comes with the development and spread of technology and digitalization, has also enabled the development of relations between countries. Countries have established economic ties with countries first in their regions and then with countries in the world. Some countries in the nearby geography have affected each other's economic development with the effect of these developments. In this study, in order to show the effect of the mutual economic interaction of Japan and China on their economic development, the economic history and relations of the two countries were examined from a historical point of view. Both the internal developments and bilateral relations of the two countries were investigated. In order to support this research, empirical methods were used. The empirical aspect of the study was discussed with CRITIC and MAIRCA, which are multi-criteria decision-making methods. An integrated model was created with the CRITIC-based MAIRCA method. The most important advantage of the model is that the methods that make up the integrated model give objective results and benefit from the correlation and standard deviations between the data. A total of 10 data points from two countries have been utilized. The data included in the study are annual data covering the period between 1980-2023. By comparing the results of the model applied separately for each country, the reciprocal interaction of the two countries was evaluated according to the years. The most important finding regarding the periods examined is that Japan showed a low foreign trade performance against China in one of the best periods in the world economy and this performance turned in favor of China in the long run. In different periods, the foreign trade performances of the two countries in the world economy have not been parallel to their mutual foreign trade performances. This situation has been interpreted as China's economic success being dependent on its foreign trade performance in the regional economy in the short term and in the world economy in the long term; Japan's economic success being dependent on its foreign trade performance in the world economy in the short term and in the regional economy in the long term.
