Abstract (EN)

Cardiovascular surgery diseases have taken a major position in categories of the most deadly and risky illness for ages. Cardiovascular operations, besides being risky, postoperative process of them is risky and a long process as well. Pain is one of the most important determinant factors of the patient's general condition in this process. It is known that cardiovascular surgery interventions are considerable a cause of pain. Additionally, pain is one of the most evident complications which affects patients during the early postoperative term. Postoperative pain grade can be reduced by various pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic techniques. Pain perception grade, duration of response to treatment and strategies of dealing with pain varies according to patients. This study was planned to analyse the case of pain experienced by patients a few days after cardiac surgery, and also to determine applicable nursing practices intended for pain problems descriptively. The study was conducted with 80 postoperative cardiovascular surgery patients aged over 25 who had been hospitalized for at most two weeks at the cardiovascular unit of a Private University hospital. 'The Form of Descriptive Characteristics Questionnaire', 'The Form of Factors Effecting Pain' and 'Mcgill Melzack Pain Questionnaire Form' were used as a medium of data collection. Prior to the study, consent was gotten from the necessary institutions and approval was also taken from the ethics committee. Statistical analysis of the data was performed using the SPSS program. Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis and Spearman's correlation tests were used to determine the percentage value of data analysis. The average age of patients in this study was found to be between58.63 ± 10.501. At the patient's immediate postoperative period, an application was initiated for coping with pain and the score was 15.95 ± 3.138. It was observed that 56.3% of patients who participated in the study at the first week were post-operative, 56.3% had undergone bypass surgery and the postoperative health status of 45% of the patients was found to be moderate. In conclusion, at the post-operative period, it was observed that support was received from nurses to deal with the issue of the patient's pain assessment, and often they deal with the pain with pharmacological methods.
