The issue of the finitety of the âlem/universe in the kelam and the new physics

In this study, the issue of finitude in the understanding of the Kelam is discussed with the understanding of the universe in the new physics. Kalam established his own understanding of the universe on hudûs and atomism and accepted the finitude based on it. In modern science, the issues that support the end of the universe and its building blocks come to the agenda. In particular, the explanations of the Early theologians about the particle of the world have close connotations with the new scientific results. Kelam atomism, which was put forward by the Mu'tazila, Ash'ariyya and Maturidiyya schools, defined everything other than Allah as the universe and put finiteness in the center They have also considered this finitude in terms of the whole of the universe, its parts and time. The new physics, which started to develop in the 20th century, reached the results that could show to finity of the universe in three ways. These indicators have dealt with the particles of matter under the name of the Standard Model, and astronomy has given the opportunity to reveal a finite picture by approaching the boundaries of the universe. This study consists of an input and two chapters. In the introductory section, the understanding of philosophy, Sufism and theology, which is the three basic legs of the conceptual Islamic thought system, is generally given. In the first chapter, the understanding of the universe of Kalam is discussed as it shows finitude. The aspects of finitude used in the description of the structure of the objects are examined. The finite structure of the basic elements such as cevher and araz and the finite structure of the object formed by them were examined. From these basic elements, it has been concluded that the universe is limited and finite. In the second chapter, the issues that show the finitude in the New Physics' view of the universe and the building blocks of the object are discussed. The finite structure was tried to be seen first at the level of particles and then at the level of the whole universe.
