The effect of urban transformation on social transformation: The example of Diyarbakir Sur

In cities, which make up the majority of the population, concentration and mobility have occurred with the effect of industrialization. The urbanization caused by this mobility caused social and spatial disorders and brought the need for transformation. In line with this need, urban transformation projects have occurred and resulted in gentrification. In this direction, this thesis deals with the urban transformation activities carried out in the cities on the society-space relationship in Diyarbakır. This study evaluates the effects of the urban transformation project realized in Diyarbakır Suriçi region such as spatial transformation, social transformation and gentrification. In the study, data were obtained by conducting interviews with in-depth interview technique, one of the qualitative research methods. In the light of the data obtained, it was concluded that the spatial transformation realized in the Suriçi region caused social transformation as a result of displacement.
