Abstract (EN)
In this study, the anxiety, depression and psychological resilience levels of the participants who only use traditional cigarettes, only electronic cigarettes, use both traditional cigarettes and electronic cigarettes, and do not use any of the traditional cigarettes and electronic cigarettes were compared. When the literature is examined, although there are many studies on traditional cigarettes, there are not enough studies on electronic cigarettes. For this reason, it is aimed to contribute to the literature by conducting a comparative research in order to better understand the difference between the psychological effects of traditional cigarettes and the psychological effects of electronic cigarettes. The sample of the study consists of a total of 538 participants, 284 men and 254 women, living in Turkey, aged between 18-65. The data were collected online by survey method. Participants declared that they volunteered to participate in the research by first reading the "Informed Voluntary Consent Form for Participants". In addition to the personal characteristics of the participants, traditional cigarettes, electronic cigarette usage characteristics, traditional cigarettes and other tobacco products other than electronic cigarettes (hookah, cigars, pipes, rolled tobacco, maras grass, etc.) and other substances (marijuana, bonsai, LSD, etc.) "Personal Information Form" was used to obtain information about usage characteristics. "Beck Anxiety Scale" was used to determine the anxiety levels of the participants. The "Beck Depression Inventory" was used to determine the depression levels of the participants, and the "Brief Resilience Scale" was used as data collection tools to determine the participants' levels of resilience. Research data were analyzed using various statistical methods. SPSS (Statistical Pack age for Social Sciences) program was used in the analysis of the data. Chi-square test was used to determine the relationship and distribution between electronic cigarette-traditional cigarette use in the last 30 days and their responses to the "Personal Information Form". Pearson correlation coefficients were calculated to determine the relationship between the scales. After dividing only electronic cigarette use and other traditional cigarette and electronic cigarette use into pairs, the scale total scores were included in the analysis one by one. Logistic regression analysis was performed to examine whether participants in the electronic cigarette-only group could be distinguished from participants in the other groups. According to the results of the research; People who only prefer to use electronic cigarettes have lower levels of anxiety and depression, and higher levels of psychological resilience. In addition, it was observed that the psychological resilience level of the participants who stated that they used both traditional cigarettes and electronic cigarettes was lower. On the other hand, the level of resilience does not distinguish the participants in the group who prefer to use only electronic cigarettes from the participants who prefer not to use any of the traditional cigarettes and electronic cigarettes, Moreover the level of psychological resilience distinguishes the participants in the group who prefer to use both traditional cigarettes and electronic cigarettes from the participants in the group who prefer not to use any of the traditional cigarettes and electronic cigarettes. On the contrary, the level of resilience does not distinguish the participants in the group who prefer to use both traditional cigarettes and electronic cigarettes from the participants who prefer to use only traditional cigarettes.
