Abstract (EN)

Objective: In this study, the investigation of the external ear canal diseases seen in dogs brought to Aydın Adnan Menderes University, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine for examination and treatment was aimed in dogs between 2020 and 2022. Materials and Methods: The study material consisted of a total of 70 (n=70) dogs of different breeds, ages and genders brought to our clinic with complaints such as nodding, tilting their heads, scratching their ears, ear discharge, bad smell, swelling and pain in the ear. Svap samples were taken from 30 dogs diagnosed with otitis externa. Results: The incidence of external ear canal diseases in dogs coming to our clinic was found to be 4.07%. It has been determined that external ear canal diseases in dogs are seen most frequently in autumn, and in animals between the ages of 4 to 7 most frequently. It consisted of patients with otitis externa at a rate of 77.4%, a foreign body at a rate of 17.14% and a mass at a rate of 5.72%. The main cause of otitis externa cases is bacteria. The most com-mon bacterial species are Corynebacterium sp. and Coagulase negative staphylococcus. The most sensitive antibiotic were Gentamicin and Ciprofloxacin, however, the most resistant antibiotics were found to be Penicilline and Lincomycin Spectinomycin. Conclusion: It was concluded that among the external ear canal diseases in dogs, how many of them are otitis externa, the cause of otitis externa is bacterial and the first choice among antibiotics is gentamicin and ciprofloxacin.
