Abstract (EN)

This research is a randomized controlled experimental study conducted to investigate the effects of video education given to patients who will undergo coronary angiography on the knowledge and anxiety levels compared to oral education. Data were collected between January and December 2023 in the angiography observation service of a training and research hospital in the Marmara Region. The sample of the study consists of 80 patients, 40 experimental groups given video education and 40 control groups given oral training. 'Patient Information Form', 'Coronary Angiography Patient Information Measurement Form' and 'Speilberg State-Trait Anxiety Scale' were used to collect data. 70% of the patients are male, 86.2% are married, 41.3% are working, and 42.5% are high school graduates. There is a significant difference between state anxiety levels in patients given video and verbal training, being lower in patients given video training (U = 327, p < .001). There is also a significant difference in trait anxiety levels between the video and verbal training groups, being lower in the video-educated patients (U = 511, p = 0.005). When the answers to the 'Coronary Angiography Patient Information Measurement Form' are examined, there is a significant difference in terms of total scores between the video education group and the verbal education group (U = 220, p < .001). This shows that the group given video training (M = 29.4) had a higher average total score than the group given oral training (M = 26.9). In line with these results, it was observed that the video education given to individuals had significant differences between the state anxiety and trait anxiety levels compared to the verbal education, and the anxiety levels of the patients decreased significantly. In addition, it was observed that patients who received video education gave more accurate answers to the 'Coronary Angiography Patient Information Measurement Form' compared to patients who received verbal education.
