Investigation of sleep and factors affecting sleep in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft surgary

Sleep Disorder (SD) is a common problem in patients undergoing Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) surgery. Although the harmful effects of SD on patients are known, the factors affecting sleep are unknown. With this study, it was aimed to determine the sleep perception and factors affecting sleep in the early postoperative period of patients undergoing CABG surgery. Research is a single-center prospective descriptive study conducted in the cardio-vascular surgery service of a training and research hospital between 01 September 2019 - 01 February 2020.92 patients who met the CABG surgery sampling criteria and agreed to participate in the study constituted the sample of the study. The data were collected through the factors that affect the sleep developed by the researcher Questionnaire and the Richards Campbell Sleep Scale (RCSS) scale. SPSS 25.0 program was used in the statistical analysis of the data. P <0.05 was accepted for statistical significance. It has been determined that being in an unusual environment, worrying that his condition will suddenly worsen, pain, having complaints such as nousea, womit, constipation, presence of medical device drains and probes attached to the body, presence of movement restriction, in acurcate positioning, the inability to sleep in a familiar position, frequent follow-up procedures, drug therapy attempts have been affected by sleep. It's stated that the factors that have most effect on patients' sleep are the findings such as pain, nousea, womit , constipation and implanted medical devices with in a body like drainage tube,sonda. The total sleep perception scores of RCSS were foundt be 15.88 ± 12.50 on the second day of surgery, 24.76 ± 7.50 on the third day, and 32.35 ± 7.56 on the fourth day. Total sleep perceptions of patients undergoing CABG surgery were found to be very poor on these cond day after surgery, and on the third and fourth days. Patients' perceptions of sleep should be determined and precautions should be taken regarding the factors that cause SD. Keywords: Bypass Surgery, Sleep, Sleep quality, Sleep disorder, Nursing
