Abstract (EN)
In a globalizing world where resources are rapidly depleting, designers are confronted with the reality that effective use of glass within the circular economy can be a significant step forward. Glass has become a valuable material since the 2000s due to its ability to be recycled without loss of quality, thereby advancing design in the era of globalization. This study aims to investigate the concept of the circular economy through the lens of glass, particularly in enhancing the design paradigm. The glass industry has been examined for its adoption of fundamental principles of the circular economy, such as material recycling and waste reduction strategies, towards sustainability goals. This evaluation gathers data on how the glass industry can be enhanced for sustainability and its potential role in the global economic context. The study focuses on exploring the concept of the circular economy through the design paradigm, especially in the context of glass materials, in a globalized world. With the rapid depletion of resources and increasing environmental issues, the solutions offered by the circular economy for sustainability have been discussed. The circular economy aims to efficiently use resources through waste recycling and reuse, balancing economic growth and environmental protection by extending product lifespans and reducing waste. The study discusses how glass can be recycled and reintegrated into the circular economy through waste management processes. Glass plays a critical role in achieving sustainable environmental goals as a material with high recycling potential. Recycling glass is crucial for preserving natural resources and reducing environmental pollution. Circular design aims to make products more durable, repairable, and long-lasting. In this context, the role of glass in design processes and its contributions to the circular economy have been examined. The development of the circular economy concept in Turkey and the contributions of the glass industry to this issue have also been discussed. In conclusion, this thesis aims to contribute to the literature by evaluating the concepts of the circular economy and design through the lens of glass materials, aiming to create a sustainable environmental and economic model, extend product lifespans, and promote recycling.
