The life of Lisan al-Din Ibn al-Khatib and his poetry

Lisan al-Din Ibn al-Khatib is one of the distinguished personalities of Andalusia with his successful official services such as clerkship, viziership and embassy, historiography, medicine, poetry and literary personality. His works on the history of Andalusia and the Maghreb, his official correspondence between states, his skill in medicine and his literary accumulation are admirable. With his life and works, he still attracts the attention of scholars in the Islamic and Western world of science. In this study, Ibn al-Khatib's life, works, literary personality and especially the content and form of his poetry are emphasized. The study, consists of an introduction and three parts. In the introduction, political, social and cultural situation of Andalusia in the period when Ibn al-Khatib lived is mentioned. In the first part, Ibn al-Khatib's identity, family, education, professors, students, Andalusian and Maghrib phases of his life, death, works and literary personality are discussed. In the second part, his poems are examined in terms of content and the themes of his poems are evaluated within the framework of the methods followed in literary sources. In the third part, the poems of the poet are examined in terms of form and style, and the verse types, meter and rhyme structure of his poems, expression methods, word and sentence preferences and literary arts in his poetry are emphasized.
